August 18, 2021

And the heat goes on.............  A few respites, but little rain to help us along.        I have given up on most of my garden.  The cucumbers now go to the chickens as all are bitter; the beans, both varieties, have no seed in the pods due to the heat killing the pollen.  I've already written about the few beets & carrots.  There are some kohlrabi yet to harvest and they seem to be OK judging from the ones we've eaten, just not a lot of them.  The 12 corn plants have some ears that seem to be OK, and there are a few squash & pumpkins.  The only thing I hold out hope for are the potatoes as the plants appear to be flourishing.  Time will tell.

Crafts are progressing at a medium pace with the daily routine.  I've done some knitting-finished a pair of socks & cast on a shawl for a KAL; progressed on both spinning projects-one on the spindle with some Massam sheep wool and one on the Ashford Traveller with some "potluck roving" wool from Paradise Fibers.  A bit of quilting fills out the rest of the bill.

Autumn is in the air even if it is not in the temperatures but at night.  It has been dropping to the low 50's and 40's then.  The autumn wind is here and the change has occurred if only the temperatures and precipitation would get the message.
