A bit more on "closing" down the homestead for winter & additions.
This is from yesterday when I could not get the site to post:

I finished picking the broccoli, cabbage & cauliflower today. We had beets and greens for supper with our meatloaf. There are about half the beets left, the carrots and the chard. I dug all of the garlic and put it to dry. 'tP' helped me dig the potatoes out front of the "water tower" - there are just the few planted in the empty berry bed left to dig. We got lots of really nice red "spuds" from today's dig. I picked a few strawberries and some fall raspberries - I put these in the freezer so I could add to them as the berries ripen, right up to the time when freezing temps outside will put a stop to that. I plan to make some mixed berry jam from them. I also picked the last few appples that were on the tree. They will become sauce or apple butter.

We put a few more strips of "siding" on the chicken house - it's a long process, doing a bit at a time.

'tP' is off bowling tonight and I am finishing up my CookieA socks made from the Maizey yarn. I also plan to get a bit of spinning done - I've almost finished that NZ long wool and want to get onto some of the other fiber that I have. I want to practice on the wheel, too, so that I can begin again on that. However, I plan to make socks for Christmas gifts, so may be just "socking, socking, socking" for the near future - there are lots of feet in this family, LOL.

TODAY: I finished the next to last bump of the NZ wool - just one more to go and then I'll ply and see what the yarn is like before deciding what to do with it. The CookieA socks are done and blocking. I have to work on the #2 GS's shirt and some other mending things that need to be done tonight.

I loved reading about your end-of-season picks. Over here on our ridge I'm pondering over the country apple trees and making juice from the elderberries. The forecast appears to call for another warm week.

Love that "indian summer" - my fall raspberries are getting ripe so will get more of them before freeze.
