Memories & Sorrows

On October 12 we held the memorial for our mum.  It was sad & beautiful to hear all of the lovely memories expressed.  She was well-loved.  My youngest brother put together a lovely presentation of pictures from her long and glorious life.  We each got a copy, for which I am so grateful!
I am going to attach the remembrance of her.

In loving memory of Katherine Stephanie Welsh

I said a silent prayer last night
it was said for all of you
now with all my heart I pray
that it will soon come true
I prayed for sunshine in your life
and only sprinkling rain
That over all the years to come
your path will smooth remain
and as I closed my silent prayer
I turned to God above and asked
That he would also now bestow on
me your love.

Anonymous poem given to Mom from our
loving Great-Grandmother Fannie (Vandersheldon) Fetterly

Katherine Stephanie Welsh, wife, mom, grand-ma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma, born Katherine Stephanie Fetterly, April 30, 1930, in Shelton, Washington, was the eldest child of Bert and Mary (Wilson) Fetterly. After the death of her father, when she was just six, Katherine, inveterate tomboy, grew up in the company of her Wilson and Fetterly grandparents and with her mother, younger brothers and sister in the south end of the Puget Sound in various logging communities, adventuring in ocean tide-pools, fishing and crabbing. In 1942, age 12, she first spied Dave Welsh who barely knew she existed. World War II was on and Dave went off to the Pacific Theater in the US Navy. In 1947 Katherine, working as manager of the cafe side of Ritner’s Café and Lounge was slinging sodas and sundaes to the townspeople. Discharged from the Navy, Dave, now 21, dropped into the Café for a soda, saw 17-year-old Katherine again, and the rest is our history.
Katherine is survived by husband David Welsh of Fern Prairie, Washington, children Molly, Libby (Elizabeth), David W, C Carol, Frank, Bryan, Annette, Grandchildren Michael, Katie, Eric, Shane, Paul, Jennifer, Stephanie, Tony (Anthony), Derek, Meghan, Jillian, Nora, Kenn, G. Grandchildren, Michael J, Daniel, William, Owen, Kyla, G.G. Granddaughter Hazel, and her sister Mary Kessel, brother Willard Kessel and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson John D. Welsh, younger brothers, Al Fetterly, Jim Fetterly and Ken Kessel. We miss you and know you watch over us.

Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27 KJV

That's a beautiful tribute to your loving mother, Molly. I was interested to note that she was just a month older than my eldest sister who is, of course, old enough to be my mother.
